A mobile court has fined Aftab Milk and Milk Products Tk 100,000 for selling pasteurised milk without the approval of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution or BSTI.

Magistrate Palash Kumar Basu, who headed a drive on the firm’s sales centre in the capital’s Segun Bagicha on Tuesday, said they destroyed some packaged products during the raid.

“They (Aftab) lost the BSTI registration last year for producing sub-standard milk, but continued selling the product with the BSTI approval tag,” he told the media.

“And they are processing the milk in an unhygienic place where they also process meat and fish,” he added, referring to the sales centre of the firm.

Bakiuzzaman, a sales representative of Aftab Milk, claimed he was not aware of the cancellation of BSTI registration.

He also claimed said they collected fresh milk from different areas of Sirajganj and brought it to Dhaka after processing in the main factory located in Gazipur’s Mouchak area.
