DU announces Tk 7.41 billion budget for FY 2018-19

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities in the capital on Wednesday announced a Tk 7.4113 billion budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 in its annual senate assembly.

DU treasurer Md Kamal Uddin placed the budget in the senate assembly at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

This year Tk 4.3296 billion has been allocated for salary and allowances which is 58.42 per cent of total budget, and Tk 1.074 billion for pensions which is 14.49 per cent of the budget.

The University Grants Commission will provide Tk 6.283 billion for the budget and Tk 712.8 million will come from DU’s own sources. The budget is likely to have a deficit of Tk 415.4 million, the treasurer told the senate.

Professor Kamal also presented a Tk 7.3872 billion revised budget for the 2017-18 fiscal.

Last year, the Dhaka University gave a Tk 6.6437 billion budget.

In his speech, DU VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman underscored the need for holding students’ union polls for creating future national leaderships and the proper management of the university, BSS reported.

Senate members of the university discussed the proposed budget and other issues of DU in the meeting.
