DMP takes four-tier security for Feb 21


Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken four- tier security in and around the Central Shaheed Minar for smooth and peaceful celebration of the Shaheed Dibas or International Mother Language Day on February 21.

After inspecting overall security arrangements at the Central Shaheed Minar, DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia said, “DMP has taken all the preparations to make the Shaheed Dibas observation smooth and peaceful and there is no threat centering the Day. Whereas, DMP personnel has been put on the highest alert to avert any untoward incident.”

Talking about the security arrangements, he said, “We have taken a tight, foolproof and coordinated security measures in and around the Central Shaheed Minar with deploying law enforcers in large numbers and setting up a huge number of closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs).

“As many as 16000 police personnel have been deployed across Dhaka city and 6000 of them will guard Dhaka University and Central Shaheed Minar area and SWAT and bomb disposal units will be kept ready to this end,” he also said.

“The cameras have been monitored round the clock from police control room setting up in front of the Central Shaheed Minar. All the people have to go through search by metal detector and archways for entering the venue.”

Entry gate for commoners will be opened soon after paying floral wreaths at alter of the Central Shaheed Minar by the president, premier, cabinet members, foreign diplomats and VVIPs (Very Very Important Persons), he informed.

The commoners can go to the venue through Palashi via Jagannath Hall, he said, adding that big banners with directives of entry points will be hanged at different places for the benefit of Shaheed Minar goers.

Asaduzzaman requested all not to enter the Shaheed Minar with shoes as it is a moral duty of all to maintain its dignity.

Necessary check posts have already been set up at different points in and around of the Central Shaheed Minar and none will be allowed to enter the venue after 6pm on February 20 without having identity cards of Dhaka University.

The DMP commissioner requested all not to come in Shaheed Minar areas with bag, trolley bag, backpack, knife, explosives.
