FT ONLINE

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Bangladesh Bhaban in Santiniketan would remain as a symbol of cultural relation between Bangladesh and India.

Despite many barriers, Bangladesh and India have immense opportunities to go ahead together to fulfill the aspirations of their people, particularly the youths, said the Indian premier, addressing the inaugural ceremony of Bangladesh Bhaban at Santiniketan in West Bengal Friday.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated Bangladesh Bhaban Friday.

"People of India are equally happy like you for your successes in the socioeconomic areas, science and technology," he said. Modi said Bangladesh Bhaban would be a centre of study and research on arts, language, history and education of the two countries and cultural exchange.

Extending his thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her presence in the inaugural ceremony of the Bangladesh Bhaban, Narendra Modi said golden era of Indo-Bangla relations is being written over the last few years.

Over the years, he said, Bangladesh and India have resolved many difficult problems like demarcation of land boundaries, which once seemed to be impossible.

Pointing out the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of coastal shipping and connectivity, Modi said India is extending all supports to Bangladesh to achieve its 2021 goal.

Appreciating the launching of Bangladesh's first satellite to the orbit, Modi said the success has created a new opportunity to cooperate in the areas of space technology with Bangladesh.

The bilateral relation between Bangladesh and India is a matter of learning and inspiration for other countries, he said.
