President off to Singapore for health checkup


President Abdul Hamid has left Dhaka for Singapore in order to perform his health checkup, early on Thursday morning.

Confirming the matter, the President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin said: “A regular aircraft of Singapore airlines, carrying the President, took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:20am.”

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, the dean of the diplomatic corps, the principal secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, chiefs of the three services, the home secretary, the foreign secretary and the inspector general of police saw him off at the airport.

The President’s spouse, Rashida Khanam, and officials concerned with the Bangabhaban are accompanying him during the trip.

During his six-day visit, Abdul Hamid is scheduled to have his health checkup at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and eye treatment at Singapore National Eye Centre.

The President is expected to return on February 13, the press secretary added.
