15 cases filed against Telex, Vision, Bestec, Ratul, Apple Global, Kay Telecom over late fees

The government has filed 15 cases for realising dues as late fees on International Gateway (IGW) license from 21 Telex Ltd, Vision Tel Ltd, Bestec Telecom Ltd, Ratul Telecom Ltd, Apple Global Telecommunications Ltd and Kay Telecommunications Ltd.

"Some Taka 921.01 crore was due as late fees from inactive six IGW licenses and Taka 145.25 crore from active 21 IGW licenses," Post, Telecommunications and ICT Minister Mostafa Zabbar said this, while replying to a question from treasury bench member AKM Rahmatullah in the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday.

He said Taka 1,303 crore was due from BTCL (Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited).

Zabbar said the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTCL) filed three cases against Telex Ltd and four cases against Vision Tel Ltd.

Besides, the BTCL filed two cases against Bestec Telecom Ltd, two against Ratul Telecom Ltd, two against Apple Global Telecommunications Ltd and two against Kay Telecommunications Ltd, he said.

The minister informed the House that the present government issued 25 IGW and 23 Interconnection Exchange (ICX) licenses.

"The government earned revenue worth Taka 13,190 crore as license fee and revenue sharing from 29 IGW from January 1, 2009 to April 3, 2018," he said, adding Taka 2,773 crore, 03 lakh, 24 thousand, 378 from 23 ICX as license fee, revenue sharing and late fee.
