Govt fixes reasonable prices for 29 food products


Amid the rising prices of daily commodities during Ramadan, the government has fixed reasonable prices for 29 agricultural products at production, wholesale, and retail levels across the country.

Md. Masud Karim, director general (Additional Secretary) of the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM), said that the department has fixed prices for a total of 29 essential commodities according to clause 4 (Jha) of the Agricultural Marketing Act, 2018.

The price will be effective from Friday, he said, adding that different government organisations including the Directorate of National Consumers' Rights Protection (DNCRP), different mobile courts under deputy commissioners across the country and the DAM will work collectively to implement the government-set prices, he said.

The DAM has fixed the retail price of Mung Dal at Tk165.41 per kg, Mashkalai Dal at Tk166.50, chickpeas (imported) at Tk98.30 per kg, lentils (fine) at Tk130.5 per kg, lentils (coarse) at Tk105.5 per kg and grass peas at Tk92.61 per kg.

The retail price of Pangas Fish will cost Tk180.87(culture) per kg, Katol Tk353.59 (culture) per kg.  

Beef will cost Tk664.39 per kg, mutton Tk1003.56 per kg, broiler chicken at Tk175.30 per kg, Sonali chicken Tk262 per kg. Besides, the price of an egg has been fixed at Tk10.49.

Local onion Tk65.40 per kg, local garlic Tk120.81 per kg, imported ginger Tk180.20 per kg, dry chilli Tk327.34 per kg, green chilli Tk60.20 per kg, cabbage Tk28.30 per kg, cauliflower Tk29.60 per kg, brinjal Tk49.75 per kg, bean Tk48 per kg, potato Tk28.55 per kg, tomato Tk40.20 per kg, pumpkin Tk23.38 per kg, date jahidi Tk185.07 per kg, fattened rice Tk60 per kg, banana sagor Tk29.78 per four-piece and bason Tk121.30 per kg.
