Abul Kalam to lead Sammilita Parishad in BGMEA polls
Sammilita Parishad, a panel of registered members of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has selected Abul Kalam, managing director of Chaity Group, as its panel leader to compete in the upcoming BGMEA elections for the 2025-27 term.
Abul Kalam is also a vice president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA).
The Sammilita Parishad's former presidents introduced its panel leader to industry stakeholders at an event at a hotel in the capital on Thursday night.
The BGMEA members generally contest in the trade body’s biennial elections under two panels — Sammilita Parishad and Forum.
Abul Kalam’s Chaity Group earns over $175 million in annual exports.
In Thursday’s event, Abul Kalam said, "We will resolve our existing problems in the RMG sector if our panel is elected by your [BGMEA members] votes in the upcoming election."
