Anti-air pollution campaign from today

A total of 25 executive magistrates would work for a month from today (Wednesday) to strengthen anti-air pollution campaign.

According to the action plan prepared by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Center to strengthen the environmental conservation campaign including control of air pollution and noise pollution in Dhaka would start from April 5.

The programme will continue till April 30 where additional 25 executive magistrates with will manage the mobile court.

As the level of pollution has increased and only three executive magistrates are employed at the Department of Environment, the Ministry of Public Administration has recently assigned the powers of executive magistrates to the officials of various Departments and attached them to the Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

This information was given in the orientation meeting regarding the operation of Mobile Court of Executive Magistrates according to the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act, 1995, held today in the meeting room of the ministry with Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed in the chair.

This is one of the 10 special initiatives of the Prime Minister as due to excess pollution the country loses productivity equivalent to about two percent of GDP.

Therefore, pollution must be controlled to create a smart Bangladesh and a knowledge-based society and to give the people a clean and livable environment, said the discussants.
