Environment activists formulate action plan for environmental conservation in Cox’s Bazar
Local environmental activists formulated a one-year action plan for environmental conservation in Cox’s Bazar and demanded an immediate survey to identify and evict illegal encroachers from the Banshkkhali River.
They formulated the action plan at an workshop titled "Developing Local Leadership for Coastal Environmental Conservation and Development" jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra-DHORA and Waterkeepers Bangladesh at Uni Resort in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday, said a press release.
The workshop was presided over by Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, Convenor of DHORA Cox’s Bazar and President of the Cox’s Bazar District Press Club.
Sharif Jamil, the Central Member Secretary of DHORA and Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh, attended the workshop as the Chief Guest. Abul Kashem, Executive Director of Help Cox’s Bazar, was present as a special guest.
The workshop was moderated by Faridul Alam Shahin, Co-Convenor of DHORA Cox’s Bazar. A total of 35 environmental activists from different upazilas of Cox’s Bazar district participated in the workshop.
During the discussions, speakers emphasized key issues such as the current state and challenges of the coastal environment, impacts of climate change and preventive measures, the role of local leadership and community organizations in environmental conservation.
They also highlighted the strategies for eco-friendly tourism and economic development, methods for reducing plastic pollution and promoting recycling and the responsibilities of local communities in disaster preparedness and response.
