Fish, meat out of diet list; people consuming less: CPD

Private research organization Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) said that some people are excluding rich foods like fish and meat from their daily diet lists to reduce food expenditure.

Inflation is rampant across the country. There is no scope to solve the problem immediately, it said.

The institute made this statement at a media briefing titled “Glimpses of economic recession in the world and preparedness of Bangladesh to overcome the challenge.”

According to CPD, a family with four members needs Tk 22,421 for food expenditure. Even excluding meat and fish, at least Tk 9,059 is needed for food purpose in a month.

As a result, the institute requested concerned authorities to increase salary or wages to their employees.

CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun said inflation is uncontrolled across the world including Bangladesh. However, the price of domestically made products is also high. Bangladesh is also facing food crisis. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts that a total of 45 countries including Bangladesh may face food crisis.

According to CPD, Bangladesh are affected by seven crises: food, dollar, fuel, inflation, Ukraine war, Covid-19 and climate change.
