BD reports 40 more deaths, 2,576 new cases


Forty more people died of coronavirus or Covid-19 in the country in the last 24 hours.

So far, the country saw 12,989 deaths.

The trajectory of Covid-19 infection keeps rising for the fifth consecutive day with a 13.25% positivity rate recorded in the last 24 hours. 

Since 6 June, the infection curve maintained a rising trend. Bangladesh reported a positivity rate above 13% on 25 April last.

Besides, 2,576 people have newly been infected with the virus in the same period. As of Thursday, the total number of Covid-19 cases stood at 8,20,395.

A press release signed by additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed this information on Thursday afternoon.

The notification said some 2,061 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,59,630.

Also, 19,447 samples were tested in 510 labs across the country. 

Among the latest day's victims, 31 were men, and nine were women. Of the victims, 37 died in different hospitals across the country while three died at home. 

Moreover, 12 of the deceased hailed from the Chattogram division, eight each from Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, six from Khulna, four from Ranpur, and two from Sylhet division.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 9,350 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,639 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
