Two outsourcing staff of DESCO, Titas arrested for embezzling Tk 23m


Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two outsourcing staff of DESCO and Titas Gas for embezzling Tk 23million from about 600 consumers.

A team of PBI Dhaka Metro North held Mohammad Mamun, 32, outsourcing supervisor at Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) and Rakibul Islam Rakib, 32, outsourcing staff of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) from the capital’s Mirpur area on Monday night.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jahangir Alam, also chief of PBI Dhaka Metro North, told this to the Daily Sun on Tuesday.

He said that the duo and some others took the amount of money from about 500 to 600 people in the Mirpur area as bills of DESCO and the Titas Gas, but they did not deposit the money to the accounts of the companies.

By this way, they embezzled the amount, he said. Of the arrestees, Mamun is the outsourcing supervisor of DESCO Mirpur office while Rakib is the staff of Titas Gas Mirpur office, he said.

Nasir Uddin, a victim, filed a case against the arrestees and some other men with Mirpur Model Police Station over the embezzlement of the money on February 2, according to the officer.

On April 15, the PBI received the duty of investigation into the case, he added.
