ACC prosecutes seven for embezzling Tk 91.5m

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed a case against four doctors and three businessmen over the embezzlement of Tk 91.5 million (9.15 crore) from Chittagong 250-Bed General Hospital.

ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said that they embezzled the money in the pretext of buying surgical equipment and withdrew the amount by submitting false documents.

They took the money between May 29, 2014 and June 30, 2016.

The top accused are - former civil surgeon and acting superintendent of Chittagong General Hospital Dr. Mohammad Sarfaraz Khan Chowdhury, senior consultant (medicine) and chairman of purchase committee Dr. Abdur Rob, junior consultant (surgery) Dr. Bijoy Kumar Nath, proprietor of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company Jaher Uddin Sarkar and proprietor of Amhad Enterprise and Managing Director and CEO of ASL Aftab Ahmed.

Assistant Director of ACC Mohammad Sirajul Haque filed the case.
