ACC catches CAAB official while taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Friday caught a Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) official red-handed while bribing of Tk 100,000 million.

The detainee, HM Rashed Sarker, a licence inspector and consultant of CAAB, usually takes bribe to scrutinise licence of individuals in a bid to allow them sitting for a commercial pilot exam.

Knowing the information, a team from the ACC led by Deputy Director Masudur Rahman laid a trap to catch Mr. Sarker in receiving bribe at a restaurant in the city’s Uttara, said ACC public relations official Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

A case will be filed shortly in this regard with ACC integrated district office-1 in Dhaka, he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, ACC arrested two former officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on a charge of embezzling Tk 1.18 billion from the city’s Segunbagicha area.

The two arrestees -- former marketing and sales director of Biman Ali Ahsan Babu and former manager (export) Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury misappropriated the money which was supposed to be paid to the government exchequer as cargo handling charges.
