Experts for increasing access to service for urban poor


Experts have called upon the government to increase access to service for urban poor to mitigate inequalities for improving livelihood of the communities.

Speakers also emphasised facilitating change makers for improving livelihood of the communities while addressing a national ‘Change Makers Conference’ of Concern Worldwide held in Dhaka recently.

Member of parliament Meher Afroz Chumki was the chief guest while social welfare ministry standing committee member Aroma Dutta presided over the meeting at Liberation War Museum in capital’s Agargaon.

Directorate of Women Affairs deputy director Fatema Zohura, directorate of social services deputy director Roknul Haque, department of youth development deputy director Biraj Chandra Sarkar, district children affairs officer Rashida Begum and Dhaka North City corporation chief social welfare officer Mamun Ul Hasan were guests at the conference.

Concern Worldwide has been addressing urban poverty through different programmes in Dhaka North and South City Corporation and Chattogram City Corporation. Concern implemented integrated urban development programmethrough three partners; SEEP, Meher Afroz Chumki  said the government has been providing training free of cost to women and girls focusing skill development.

“Now women are playing great role in family, society and country. The political and economic engagement of women is increased. Every action is important to bring a wider change in the country for women and girls,” she said.

Concern Worldwide country director Manish Kumar Agrawal the organisation has been advocating to address extreme poverty in the with eighth five year plan of government and sustainable development goals.

Concern Worldwide’s country strategic plan aims to contribute to bringing sustainable, positive changes in the lives of people living in extreme poverty in Bangladesh.
