No HSC, equivalent exams this year: Dipu Moni

The government has decided not to hold the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Education Minister Dipu Moni announced at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.

Students, however, will be evaluated on the basis of their results in Junior School Certificate (JSC), Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the equivalent examinations, she said.

The results will be published in December, Dipu Moni added.

An experts committee has already been formed to facilitate the evaluation process of about 1.4 million students, according to the education minister.

As for initiating the university admission process, she said it would be by February next year.

Earlier, the education ministry had extended the closure of all the educational institutions of the country till October 31 citing lack of significant improvements in the Covid situation.

On March 16, the government closed all educational institutions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. No classes have been held since that day.
