The Ministry of Education has cancelled the previously set quota for the family members of those injured and killed in the July-August 2024 uprising for admission to government schools.

However, a directive has been issued to reserve one additional seat per class for admission, which will only be applicable for the 2025 academic year.

On Tuesday, March 3, the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued an official order reserving one additional seat per class for admission.

Earlier, on February 20, the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education had issued an order including the family members of those injured and killed in the July-August 2024 uprising within the existing 5% quota for freedom fighters in government secondary school admissions.

Following this, on Monday, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education instructed educational institutions to implement the order. After this directive, various media outlets published reports on the matter.

The newly issued order on Tuesday says that many students and civilians were injured or killed due to the mass uprising in July-August 2024. In light of this, the order issued on February 20 has been cancelled, and a new order has been issued.

The order further says that one additional seat per class will be reserved through a lottery for the admission of family members of those injured or killed in the July 2024 mass uprising.

For the allocation of seats, relevant proof documents or authenticated copies of official gazettes must be attached to the application, and the original copies must be presented at the time of admission.

In this regard, the admission process must be completed only after properly verifying the gazette issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs for the martyrs of the July 2024 mass uprising.

If there are no eligible applicants from the families of those injured or killed in the uprising, the vacant seat must be filled from the merit list. Under no circumstances should the seat remain vacant.

This order will only be applicable for the 2025 academic year.
