Humayun for diversifying food system

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today underscored the need for diversification of the country's food system to ensure safe and nutritious food for all people.

"Agriculture has become a major industry of the country. We need to industrialize our food or food system. Introducing a diversified food system will make easier for low-income people to get safe and nutritious food at affordable prices," he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the prize distribution function of the 'Food Frontiers 2' competition at a hotel in the city, said a press release.

Switzerland based international organization 'Global Alliance for Improvement Nutrition (GAIN) and World Food Programme (WFP) jointly organized the event for ensuring safe and nutritious food for underprivileged and marginalized communities.

In his speech, Humayun said Bangladesh government is determined to ensure safe and nutritious food for every person in the country.

"To make it successful, the participation of today's youth is needed. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina says that the youth should come forward for the development of the country," he added.

Additional Secretary of the Health and Family Planning Ministry and Country Focal Point of the Bangladesh Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Jebunnessa Begum presided over the programme.
