BD reports 61 Covid deaths, 1,914 new cases


Bangladesh reported 61 more deaths from Covid-19 and new 1,914 new cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday 8 am.

With today's figures, the total death count reached 11,705 and the fatality rate from the virus now stands at 1.53%.

According to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total case count in the country stands at 7,65,596.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate further dropped to 8.71% during the period, which is the lowest in 47 days. On 17 March the rate was recorded at 7.68% in a time span of 24 hours.

In the meantime, the country tested 21,984 samples in its 420 labs on Tuesday. 

Among the latest day's victims, 36 were men, and 25 were women. Of them, 59 died in different hospitals across the country while two died at home. 

Moreover, 28 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 18 from Chattogram, seven from Rajshahi, two each Barishal, Sylhet and Rangpur, and one each from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions. 

Also, 3,870 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 90.78% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 8,512 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,193 were women.

The country's maiden covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

India on Tuesday registered 357,229 new Covid-19 cases in the preceding 24 hours, taking the country's total coronavirus infection tally past the 20-million mark. 3,449 new fatalities were also recorded in the same duration, mounting the death toll to 222,408. 

As of Tuesday, 3,228,046 people died of Covid-19 and 154,227,689 were infected so far, according to data provided by Worlometer.
