Shab-e-Qadr to be observed on Wednesday night

Muslims across the country are set to observe the holy Shab-e-Qadr or Lailatul Qadr on Wednesday night.

The night of 27th Ramadan stands out with luminous significance as the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on this night.

According to the holy Quran, Lailatul Qadr or the Night of Decree is better than a 1,000 nights as the angels and the spirits descend therein with the permission of Almighty Allah (SWT).

Generally, Muslims observe the occasion through night-long special prayers, milad mahfils, Quran Khwani, and religious discussions at mosques and homes.

Every year, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque holds special prayers and sermon sessions to observe the holy night.

Believers also spend the entire night praying and reciting from the holy Quran for the Almighty's blessing.

They also beg Almighty Allah to protect them from all kinds of troubles and difficulties, and reward them with good fortune.

Devotees also visit graveyards to seek eternal blessings for the departed souls of their near and dear ones.

Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus, however, the central mosque has not arranged any special prayers this year, said Kazi Nurul Islam, secretary of the Bangladesh Islamic Foundation.

"According to our previous order, people are allowed to offer Tarawee prayer and additional prayer at mosques following 12 health guidelines," said Kazi Nurul Islam.

Health guidelines include all mosques being disinfected before every prayer. There should be one gap in between two serials, the people have to do their wudu (the ritual washing of hands, face and feet before prayers) from their homes, and wear a mask before going to the mosque.
