Extension of ‘lockdown’ will depend on corona infection rate: Health DG

The decision on whether the ongoing shutdown would be extended or not will be taken after observing the overall Covid-19 infection rate in the country, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said Monday.

DGHS DG Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam came up with the disclosure while replying to a query of a journalist during his visit to Manikganj 250-bed District Hospital.

He said that the restriction has been imposed to save people's lives. Legal actions will be taken against those who will not obey government's rules, he added.

In an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus, the government enforces a weeklong countrywide lockdown from today, slapping restrictions on the movement of people, public transport and other activities.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Sunday in this regard.
