Poverty won’t remain in Bangladesh: Matia


Awami League Presidium Member and former Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury said there will be no
poverty in the country as it is now self-sufficient in food grains.

“Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food grains. There will be no poverty in Bangladesh. None will remain homeless in Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh,” she told a food and clothes distribution ceremony at Foyjur Rahman Ideal Institute ground at Banasree, Rampura in the city.

Lions Club of Dhaka Lawyers arranged the ceremony on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Matia said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing the poverty alleviation programme in the country. She urged the affluent people and social organizations to come forward to make their efforts inextending cooperation to poor people.

District Governor of Lions Club 315-A2 Sheikh Md Azhar chaired the function while Deputy Attorney General Dr. Md. Bashir Ullah, Lion Kamrunnahar Zaheer, former district governor Mohammad Fakhruddin, Dhaka City North unit of Mohila Jubo League joint general secretary Mitu Akhter addressed it as the special guests.

Matia distributed food and clothes among 500 low-income families with maintaining health guidelines in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
