Motorcycle banned on Padma Bridge

The government has prohibited plying of motorcycle on the Padma Bridge in view of the accidents.

The Bridges Division issued an order in this regard Sunday afternoon.

Press Information Department (PID) of the government relayed the order to be disseminated by the print and electronic media.

In its order, Bridges Division said the ban on motorcycle will come into effect from 6am of June 27. The ban will be effective till further order, it added.

Pressure of additional motorcycles was witnessed after the opening of Padma Bridge to traffic at 6:00am on Sunday. As a result, the toll collectors had to face great difficulties in collecting toll.

It was learnt that motorcycles were operated to cross the river Padma on fare. Motorcyclists charged each passenger Tk 200 and they were not running their motorcycles without two passengers for each. If someone wanted to move alone, he had to pay Tk 400 as fare.
