Govt sets procurement prices of Aman paddy, rice
The government has fixed the procurement prices of Aman paddy and rice for this year.
The Aman paddy procurement price has been set at Tk 30 per kg, boiled rice at Tk 44 per kg and non-boiled rice at Tk 43 per kg.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the food planning and maintenance committee held at the secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.
After emerging from the meeting, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder told reporters that the government will begin procuring the paddy and rice in November.
Under the programme, the government will buy a total of four lakh tonnes of boiled rice and one lakh tonnes of nonboiled rice and two lakh tonnes of paddy.
Claiming that the country’s food grain stock is in a good position, the food minister said that around 4.5 lakh tonnes of wheat is in the pipeline to reach the country soon.
The food minister said that 4 lakh tonnes of paddy was supposed to be purchased in the last Boro season but the government has been able to collect only 2 lakh tonnes.
However, 12.5 lakh tonnes of boro rice was supposed to be purchased during the season but the government had been able to purchase 2 lakh tonnes of rice more than the target.
