Environment and climate minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury held a meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari on Tuesday at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital, for discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation on environment conservation and climate resiliency.

During the meeting, the Nepali envoy presented a letter from his country’s environment minister Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi inviting Saber to an international climate event in Nepal.

The Nepalese government would organise the “International Expert Dialogue on Mountains, People, and Climate Change” in Kathmandu on 22-23 May. Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury has been picked as the keynote paper at the event.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Saber expressed Bangladesh's keen interest in strengthening bilateral ties in the field of environmental conservation. The discussion underscored the shared commitment of both countries to address common environmental challenges and foster sustainable development initiatives.

Ambassador Bhandari highlighted Nepal's rich natural heritage and its efforts to promote sustainable development practices. He emphasised cross-border cooperation for protecting shared ecosystems and addressing trans-boundary environmental issues.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to explore avenues for collaboration, including the exchange of best practices, joint research projects, and the facilitation of technical expertise exchanges between Nepal and Bangladesh in the areas of environment protection and climate change adaptation.
