Eid waste removal begins in Dhaka north and south city corporations


The uniformed cleaners of both Dhaka North and South City Corporations began removing the waste generated from animals sacrificed today, marking Eid-ul-Adha, the second biggest religious festival for Muslims.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor (DNCC) Atiqul Islam inaugurated the waste removal works in two separate programme around 2pm.

Earlier, the DSCC mayor vowed to remove the waste within 24 hours on Eid day, while the DNCC mayor committed to completing the task within six hours.

Regional executive officers of both city corporations also attend the programme virtually to make the efforts successful.

Taposh, now abroad, attended the inaugural event virtually while Atiqul Islam kicked-off the efforts from a programme held in Mirpur area.  

At least 19,000 cleaners have been deployed, with 10,257 working in areas under the DSCC and 9,337 in areas under the DNCC.

Out of the 19,000 workers in the two city corporations, at least 8,700 are Primary Waste Collection Service Providers or van service workers who usually collect domestic waste in exchange of money.

The two city corporations have introduced monitoring cells and asked city dwellers to call 01709900888 or 02223368014 if the Eid wastes are not removed in their areas within the stipulated time.
