Ex-state minister Mahbub Ali arrested

Former state minister for civil aviation and tourism Md Mahbub Ali has been arrested in Dhaka.

He was apprehended in the Segunbagicha area on Sunday night. He was later taken to the DB office in Mintoo Road.

Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch; confirmed this to reporters.

The former state minister was held in a case filed with Jatrabari police station, the DMP added.

The former state minister will be produced in court on Monday, according to media reports.

The former junior minister is facing allegations brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission, or ACC, for acquiring assets worth “thousands of millions of taka” after the names of his wife and family by abusing his office.

The anti-graft watchdog also initially confirmed information about huge illegal properties at home and abroad owned by the former Habiganj-4 MP.

On Sept 5, ACC Deputy Director Md Aktarul Islam said, “A full-scale inquiry has been decided against him after the ACC investigators initially found the truth in the allegations.”
