One crore families to each get 10kg rice for free: Food adviser

One crore families would each get 10 kilograms of rice during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival towards the end of March, Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder said Monday.

Furthermore, 50 lakh poor families would get 60kg rice twice in March and April at Tk15 per kg.

Another two lakh tonnes of rice will be distributed at subsidised rates through TCB truck sales and OMS sales, the food adviser told a session dedicated for the food and land ministries during the Deputy Commissioner Conference 2025.

Through these initiatives total six lakh tonnes of rice will be distributed at low-cost in March and April.

The government has taken a number of other low-cost sale initiatives to distribute one lakh tonnes of rice among poor consumers partly to control surging prices in markets.

Dhaka division's 122 sales centres and 70 truck sales points, along with TCB operations, will be monitored as needed with the deployment of magistrates, he added.
