Suprovat bus driver killed Abrar while fleeing accident spot
The Suprovat Paribahan bus had hit a woman pedestrian before running over and killing Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury in front of Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
Gulshan police station OC Abu Bakar Siddique confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune Wednesday, and added: “Some people came forward and informed that the bus hit a young woman named Synthia Islam Mukta in Shahjadpur’s Bashtala area.”
“In an attempt to flee that scene in a hurry, bus driver Sirajul Islam was driving recklessly when he ran over Abrar near the main gate of Bashundhara Residential Area minutes later,” he added.
“However, there are no further details about the injured women. We are still searching for her,” said the OC.
OC Abu Bakar also said that the case, filed by Abrar’s father will be handed over to Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch on Thursday.
Police arrested Sirajul, who was driving the bus with the license of light vehicles, and impounded the bus soon after the incident, but Abrar’s death had sparked a daylong protest, which later spread across the capital and the country on Wednesday.
