Free and fair elections must for stability: PM
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said that free, fair and impartial elections are necessary for the stability of development and progress in the country.
She said, “Now there is no chance of vote rigging as we have given voter list with pictures. We have introduced smart NID card for the citizens. There is no opportunity to vote with fake voters. We wanted to vote in EVMs, many objected. The Election Commission will use EVMs as much as possible. Voters will vote through the use of modern technology.”
The prime minister said that development has been possible because the democratic process continues in the country, and also added that Awami League works with a sense of responsibility towards the people.
She said this at a press conference at Ganobhaban on Monday (March 13) afternoon, summarising his recent visit to Qatar.
Sheikh Hasina said, "We have proved that development takes place when there is political stability." Sometimes you have to listen to criticism. After Awami League came to government, we opened everything. Even sitting abroad, many people criticize us. That opportunity has come about due to the development of information technology. We did it. Whatever anyone says, we will develop from confidence and sense of duty.”
