GM Quader meets President

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader held a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday night at Bangabhaban in the capital.

The meeting started at around 8:00 pm and continued till 8:45 pm.

They discussed the next national general election and possible dialogue among the political parties, according to party sources.

However, GM Quader did not talk anything about the discussion after coming out from the Bangabhaban.

JP secretary general Mujibul Haque said that Quader stayed at Bangabhaban for his ‘personal visit.’

‘He [GM Quader] made the visit on his personal ground. That’s why he did not make any comment to the media,’ Mujibul told reporters.

The meeting was held just a day after the United States ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, handed over a letter from his government calling for a dialogue without any preconditions between political parties to resolve the crisis.

A US embassy spokesperson told the media on Monday that ambassador Haas had requested meetings with senior leaders of all three major political parties to underscore the US position regarding the upcoming elections.

The letter also remained between the parties about the US visa policy for Bangladeshis that the country announced on May 24.

The latest US call for dialogue came at a time when senior leaders of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, were in jail following the party’s foiled grand rally on October 28.
