Women leaders call for ensuring women empowerment in election manifesto


Leaders of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) today underscored the need for ensuring women's empowerment as well as their security in the election manifesto of all the political parties in the country.

They came up with the call at a press conference held at Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday. 

BMP Central Committee president Dr Fauzia Moslem was present there as a moderator while a written speech was read by BMP's Secretary of Movement Rabeya Khatun Shanti on the occasion.

In the written statement, it was said that in order to ensure and advance the sustainable political empowerment of women, it is necessary to ensure sufficient women's participation in the governance of the state.
 
Thus, it is necessary to organize elections in the reserved seats for women in the parliament, increase the number of seats by one-third alongside upholding the system in force for the next two-three terms and give importance to the nomination of women by every political party in the national elections, the statement read.
 
Political empowerment of women, including the monitoring of the inclusion of 33 percent participation of women in all committees of all political parties should be ensured, the statement said, adding that the matter of the protection of human rights of marginalized communities including ethnic minority, challenged people and unprivileged people were also presented.
 
A total of 34 recommendations were presented to ensure women's education, health, sports rights, democracy and good governance.
 
Speaking on the occasion, BMP Central Committee president Dr Fauzia Moslem said that the movement will continue on behalf of the women to ensure their participation in the elections.
 
She called upon the people to take the initiative in people-friendly elections to establish good governance and a democratic state.

BMP General Secretary Maleka Banu, its Joint General Secretaries Sima Moslem and Advocate Masuda Rehana Begum and Advocacy and Lobby Director Jana Goswami, among others, were present on the occasion.
