14-party alliance to meet today to decide on election coalition, seat-sharing

The Awami League-led 14-party alliance is set to hold a meeting on Monday to decide whether they will participate in the 12th national election as a coalition and how many seats they would be sharing among them.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at Ganabhaban around 6 pm with Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

According to the election schedule, the returning officer began the scrutiny of the nomination papers for candidates on December 1, and the process will conclude today.

Meanwhile, Awami League declared candidates for 298 constituencies on 26 November, leaving two seats – Kushtia-2 and Narayanganj-5 – vacant, dropping 72 current parliament members.

The uncertainty over seat sharing has left the partners in a state of limbo as they are confused regarding the election alliance in the upcoming polls.
