All the public and private universities of the country have been declared shut for an indefinite period amid the ongoing demonstrations by students demanding reformation in the quota system in government jobs.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) made the announcement in a notification on Tuesday night.

As per the government decision, the academic activities in all public and private universities as well as their affiliated medical, textile, engineering, and other colleges would be closed until any further order, the notification read.

At the same time, students have been asked to vacate their halls of residence for the sake of their safety.
