Hasnat, Sarjis narrowly escape death in road accident
A car of the motorcade of Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement narrowly escaped death in a road accident on Wednesday evening.
The accident took place at Hajji intersection of Chunti Union point on Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar highway around 7 pm when a truck hit their private car deliberately on their way to Dhaka.
In the initial investigation, the driver claimed to have unloaded goods from Mymensingh to Cox's Bazar, but no information about the unloading of goods has been found.
Arif Sohel, member secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said both Hasnat and Sarjis were safe.
According to FT's trusted source; they were returning from Cox's Bazar. Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam were in one car, while the Chattogram coordinators were in another. The car carrying the Chattogram coordinators was damaged in the accident.
Khan Talat Mahmud Rafi; a Chattogram unit coordinator of the student movement, confirmed this to reporters.
The duo was returning to Dhaka after attending namaz-e-janaza of slain Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram.
The leaders and members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement brought out a protest march from TSC's Raju Memorial Sculpture around 10:45 pm to condemn "the attempt on the lives of Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam".
Alif was murdered during a violent clash between police, lawyers and followers of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari near Rangam Convention Hall, adjacent to Chattogram Court Building on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Sarjis has held Hindu religious organisation ISKCON responsible for killing a lawyer in Chattogram court and urged the government to immediately impose a ban on the organisation.
“We will go for a tougher movement across the country if the killers are not arrested and their exemplary punishment is not ensured,” he said this while talking to reporters after attending a namaz-e-janaza of the victim in Chattogram.
