The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday asked all banks to freeze the accounts of removed Jubo League Chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, his wife Sheikh Sultana Rekha, son Abid Chowdhury, Muktadir Ahmed Chowdhury and Istiak Ahmed Chowdhury.

On October 3, Bangladesh Bank's Financial Intelligence Unit asked all banks and financial institutions to send information on the bank accounts of Omar Faruk within three working days.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina relieved Omar Faruk Chowdhury of his duties as chairman of the ruling party's youth front, Jubo League.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Awami League chief and central leaders of Jubo League at Ganabhaban.

Omar Faruk Chowdhury was not invited to the meeting.

The decision comes at a time when the ruling party's youth front is going through a severe image crisis for the involvement of its top leaders with casinos and corrupt improprieties.

In the 47 year history of Jubo League, 71-year-old Omar Faruk was the oldest chairman. He secured the post at the age of 64 in 2012.
