No Iftar market on footpaths during Ramadan: IGP

NEWS DESK

The new Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed said that no one will be allowed to cook or sell iftar items on the footpaths during the Ramadan.

He made the remark during a video conference with the police officials from different units across the country regarding the overall situation of the country before Ramadan.

"If some individual or organisation wants to distribute iftar among the poor, they have to do it while maintaining social distancing. We will help them to distribute relief while making sure that there isn't any mass gathering," the IGP said.

Emphasising on the fact that some people have tendencies to break the lockdown by roaming outside unnecessarily, Dr Benazir said that this has to be stopped.

"We have to make sure that people don't go out without proper reasons during the lockdown period," he said.

"Many trucks carrying relief goods are going to different districts. They usually return empty," Dr Benazir said adding that steps have to be taken to ensure that the trucks carry necessary goods when they return.
