BD reports 32 more deaths, 1,407 new cases


Bangladesh confirmed 32 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,193, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 1,407 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3,60,555.

Of the dead patients, 22 were men and 10 were women. Moreover, 25 of them hailed from Dhaka, three each from Chattogram and Rajshahi, and one from Mymensingh division.

Thirty of them have died in different hospitals and two at their respective residences.

However, a total of 1,582 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 272,073. 

Some 11,922 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 11,284 were tested in 106 labs across the country. So far 1,921,382 samples have been tested.

Around 75.46 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.44 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 11.80 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 18.77 percent.

The virus has killed 1,002,669 people globally and infected 33,328,650 so far.
