7-day nationwide lockdown from Monday; notification issued


The government has announced a seven-day nationwide lockdown from Monday to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

A notification in this regards was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said public transport movement will be suspended from Monday as part of the latest lockdown.

However, important services, including food supplies, daily commodities, perishable items, fuel, medicine, transport related to medicine, agriculture goods, fertilisers, fisheries, animal and livestock, baby foods, newspaper and essential items will continue as usual, he added.

The death toll from the novel coronavirus climbed to 9,213 in Bangladesh after 58 more deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Saturday.

Besides, 5,683 people tested positive for the virus during the same period bringing its total tally to 630,277.
