Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down


Stock markets closed on Monday of the week
with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were insurance and food and allied. A total of
174 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day
with 35.23 points down at 5,904.23. But, the Shariah DSES and the blue-chip
DS30 closed the day with 7.18 points up at 1,329.45 and with 3.25 points up
at 2,046.77 respectively.

The daily trade fell to 27.64 crore shares from Sunday’s 37.92 crore
shares and the day’s trade value at the DSE decreased to Taka 1,009.55 crore
from Taka 1,198.57 crore of the previous session.

At the DSE, prices of 105 securities out of the day’s 345 closed higher
against 213 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Asian Insurance, Provati Insurance, East
Land, Desh Bandhu and Sonali Ansh. The major losing companies were Agrani
Insurance, United Insurance, Emerald Oil, Sonar Bangla Insurance and Peoples
Insurance.

UPGDCL topped the turnover list followed by GP, East Land, Square Pharma
and Premier Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with
downward trend with its major CASPI 71.40 points down at 18,144.40.

At the CSE, 279 issues were traded. Of those, 87 closed higher and 170
closed lower when 1.46 crore shares worth Taka 38.86 crore changed hands.
