ICPC world finals acknowledgment of Bangladesh capabilities


Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the ‘world finals’ of International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) in Dhaka is acknowledgment of new capability of the country.

“This prestigious ICPC programming competition is a token of Bangladesh’s commitment to the creation of a thriving digital world with easy, accessible and equitable solutions for all,” the foreign minister said while inaugurating a global computer event in Dhaka on Tuesday.

More than one thousand foreign delegates including contestants of 137 teams from 70 countries will be participating in the three-day long carnival at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.

United States-based ICPC Foundation is hosting finals of the 45th edition of the global event in association with the ICT Division in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and University of Asia Pacific (UAP) are the partners of the prorgamme.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and ICPC Executive Director Dr. William B. Poucher were also special guests on the occasion.

ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, ICPC Deputy Executive Director Michael J Donahoo, Huawei Vice President Vicky Zhang, Jet Brains Vice President Andrei Ivanov, UAP vice-chancellor Prof Qumrul Ahsan and BCC Executive DirectorRanajit Kumar were also present on the occasion.

Abdul Momen termed the ICPC more than the problems it solves as it is indeed a genuine acknowledgement of a new Bangladesh and its many new capabilities - where digitalization is embedded into state policies and priority actions.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that programming is the language of future and it help bridge the gap between cultures, languages and societies.

“This is apparent through the various technological innovations we see in the World today. I believe that programmers are the problem solvers of tomorrow,” he said. 

ICPC Foundation President William B Poucher said the organisation is fulfilling our purpose which is to uplift every generation, computer science engineers to build on the strengths of the world that we have today to the benefit of their neighbors.

The 45th ICPC world finals will take place at the ICCB on 10 November 2022.
