Russia keen to invest in telecommunication sector

Russia has expressed keen interest to invest in the country’s telecommunication sector for accelerating its journey towards digitalization.

It has also expressed willingness to extend financial and technical support to launch Bangabandhu-2 satellite.

The Russian interest came at a meeting between the Russian ambassador to Dhaka Alexander I Ignatov and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Tuesday at the latter’s office in the city.

A five-member team of Russian satellite technology company Glavkosmos also joined the meeting led by the Russian envoy to discuss issues related to Bangabandhu-2 satellite and their interest in investing in the country’s telecommunication sector.

The post and communication division is working on the project to launch Bangabandhu-2. According to the ruling party’s election manifest, the work is scheduled to be completed by 2023.

The Russian delegation praised Bangladesh's journey towards digitalisation.

BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque, BTCL Managing Director Md Azizul Islam along with senior ministry officials were present in the programme.
