The Malaysian government has agreed to reopen all sectors, except the plantation sector, for foreign workers including Bangladeshis, said the country’s Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan.

It has also decided to postpone the implementation of the multi-tier levy from January 1 to July 1, 2022 in order to relieve the employer’s burden, reports the Malaysian Reserve on Friday.

For the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, the Malaysian government has agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Republic Bangladesh, said Saravanan.

The admission of Bangladeshi workers would begin immediately following the signing of the MoU, he added.

Agriculture, plantations, manufacturing, services, mining and quarrying, construction, and domestic servants are among the industries that will be able to hire these people, said the Malaysian minister.
