Climate disaster will continue to escalate if immediate measures are not taken, said Md Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
He was addressing a discussion titled ‘ Beat The Heat: Nature for Cool Cities’ Challenge’ organised at the SDG 7 Pavilion at Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center (SHICC) in Egypt on Wednesday.
Bangladesh is one of the countries worst affected by climate change, he said.
The mayor said “We are working relentlessly for eco-friendly solution to the crisis in DNCC areas. In the meantime, a total of 24 parks and play grounds have been built. We have also taken steps to reclaim open spaces.”
Apart from parks and play grounds, the vast greeneries are believed to ensure a healthy environment for the future generation, Mayor Atiq said.
