The activities of juvenile gangs have increased at an alarming rate in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka. They are not only causing a deterioration in law and order, but also creating insecurity and panic among the common people.
The increasing activity of juvenile gangs has become a major threat to society, destroying stability and peace in the society.
Crime analysts say that the fear of juvenile gangs has spread in the city. Due to this, not only the fear but also the businessmen are fed up with the unbridled extortion.
Moreover, the government and the members of the government's law enforcement agencies know that they are led by different political parties. Due to this, it is not possible to control juvenile crime even if the society wants to.
Social analysts claim that after August 5, the members of the teenage gangs who have become reckless are taking on a more dangerous form. Suddenly, members of teenage gangs across the country are getting involved in various crimes. They are often working as hired killers.
Crime analysts say that if we are not vigilant now, it will be very difficult to control juvenile crime. Many say that juvenile gangs are now the thorn in the country's criminality. To control this type of crime, people from all walks of life must be socially vigilant and come forward. However, in the past, there have been political obstacles to controlling juvenile gangs. This time too, law enforcement officers are facing the same obstacles.
Detective police say that members of the juvenile gang are usually involved in minor crimes to major criminal activities. Recently, the activities of juvenile gangs have been observed more in areas like Mirpur, Uttara and Mohammadpur. The criminals are openly attacking the common people. Due to which, intense panic is being created among the common people. On the one hand, where the common people want to move safely, the criminals are continuing their terrorist activities day after day. Due to such violent activities of the juvenile gang, the peaceful environment of the society is gradually being disturbed. In addition, the criminal activities of the juvenile gang have also increased in the Mohammadpur area.
According to police and local sources, teenagers are committing theft, robbery, drug dealing and violence here. This is not only disrupting the security of the area, but also raising questions about the law enforcement agencies. When ordinary people are victims of these crimes, they become skeptical about the effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies.
The role of law enforcement and confusion in the public mind
The role of law enforcement agencies is very important in the context of this activity of juvenile gangs. But the reality is that the police are not taking appropriate action against criminal juveniles. Even in the presence of the police, criminals continue their activities without hesitation. As a result, a negative perception is being created among the general public about the law enforcement agencies.
Aware Mohul believes that when the number of juvenile gang crimes increases in areas like Mirpur, Uttara and Mohammadpur, people's trust in law enforcement agencies decreases. In this case, if the people feel that the police are unable to prevent criminals, then they may take the law into their own hands.
As seen in the Uttara attack, the residents of the area caught the criminal juveniles and beat them up and handed them over to the police. This can certainly create a dangerous situation, because taking the law into one's own hands is a threat to society.
Reasons for the rise of teenage gangs
Conscious circles claim- 'There are several reasons behind this rise of juvenile gangs. First, family neglect is one of the major reasons. Many juveniles become members of criminal gangs due to lack of proper guidance from their families. Second, lack of proper recreational and creative activities pushes juveniles towards crime. Third, due to social unrest and moral degradation, juveniles are getting involved in criminal activities. They are choosing the wrong path to gain power, money and respect in the society.
Moreover, the attraction of crime among teenagers is increasing through social media and movies. Many teenagers are attracted to criminal gang culture in these media and follow them. These things develop a criminal attitude in the minds of teenagers and they start to think of crime as a style or "cool".
Several effective steps are needed to stop the activities of juvenile gangs. First, it is important to keep them away from political benefits and create alternative activities for juveniles. The government should organize sports, cultural programs and other creative activities for juveniles so that they do not turn to crime.
Secondly, everyone needs to be socially vigilant and all law enforcement agencies need to be stronger and more effective. The police need to be supported in taking timely action against juvenile offenders - and increased surveillance of the activities of criminal gangs.
Thirdly, the responsibility of the family and society should also be increased. Moreover, parents and guardians should monitor their children more and give them proper guidance so that they do not go down the path of crime. It is possible to bring about positive changes in adolescents by providing them with proper psychological support and counseling.
The current situation of juvenile gangs has become a major challenge for society. Recently, some worrying incidents have taken place in areas like Uttara and Mohammadpur, which are evidence of the unstable activities of juvenile gangs.
"To overcome this situation, people from every level of society, along with the government, need to work together. This problem can be solved by creating alternative opportunities for teenagers, effective action by law enforcement agencies, and increasing social awareness. Only then will we be able to ensure a safe and peaceful society," said a senior law enforcement official who did not wish to be named.
Times have changed, but the increasingly terrifying 'teen gang' has not changed, wreaking havoc across the country
According to a special intelligence force working to control juvenile crime, the members of the increasingly feared 'teen gang' have not changed despite the changing times. After August 5, some have changed groups, some have changed their shelters and patrons. Some have emerged in new forms, replacing the old ones.
According to information from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of members of this gang has increased recently. They are wreaking havoc across the country.
After the fall of the Awami League government, it is known that the incidence of juvenile gangs has increased many times in various wards, neighborhoods, and neighborhoods including Dhaka. This has led to an increase in heinous incidents such as encroachment, extortion, theft, robbery, and fights across the area. And juvenile criminals are behind all of this.
Sources say that the so-called political leaders of the area are using them to benefit themselves. The business community and the general public of the area are being victimized by this reckless gang of teenagers in the shelter of the so-called leaders.
Teenage gangs have taken a terrifying turn in Uttara, Mohammadpur, and Mirpur
After searching various sectors, wards and neighborhoods of Uttara, it was found that the mischief of juvenile gangs in these areas is double. Heinous incidents like encroachment, extortion, theft, robbery and fights have increased across the area. In addition to theft and robbery in houses during the day, this gang often cuts valuable electrical wires of houses, industrial establishments and various schools and colleges in the night in Turag Nayanagar, Dalipara, Baunia, Kamarpara, Dakshinkhan, Transmitter, Mollabari, Holan, Azampur, Ashkona, Kawla, Khilkhet Nikunja, Uttarkhan Madar Bari, Mazarpara, Barabagh, Chanpara, Termukh, Uttarkhan Government Primary School and other neighborhoods.
It is known that the teenage gang includes local youths, sneak thieves, robbers and some school and college students who are prone to danger. Often, in cases of theft of valuable rods and cement from under-construction buildings, the locals catch the thieves and report them to the police station, but due to the young age of the thieves, the police station cannot take action against them.
Traders allege that members of the teenage gang in Uttara are getting involved in various crimes. To show off their heroism, these teenagers are engaging in extortion, robbery, drug dealing and even murder. Residents of various cities, neighborhoods and neighborhoods of the country, including the capital, are terrified by this. Despite the fall of the Awami League, members of these teenage gangs are still continuing their misdeeds after changing parties. As in the past, they are still under the umbrella of political leaders or influential circles.
Several pedestrians in Mohammadpur, Mirpur and Uttara said that due to the harassment of the members of the youth group, it is scary to walk on the streets with their wives and children in these areas at night. They are so dangerous that they do not hesitate to insult, harass and even kill people on the streets over minor issues. Currently, businessmen are fed up with the unbridled extortion of the youth gang. However, the police do not have any separate information about the crimes committed by the youth gang. Considering the increase in members and their recent activities, they say that the youth gang has become more dangerous.
Several victims, who did not want to be named, said that although juvenile gangs are seen around Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Uttara Paschim police stations, the police station police do not arrest them for unknown reasons. Although they are involved in various terrorist criminal activities and create suffering in public life, they are currently accused of trying to join a new political party.
Recently, a pedestrian named Nazrul was attacked by a gang of teenagers under a flyover in Dhaka's Uttara Jasimuddin area. When he resisted the robbery, members of the gang attacked him with domestic weapons.
The robbers snatched the earrings and mobile phone of a garment worker named Kona when she was stopped during a mobile phone robbery in Abdullahpur area. She was later rescued in a seriously injured condition and admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Statement from law enforcement agencies
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters sources say that there are juvenile gang members in every DMP police station area. 40 percent of those involved in criminal activities in Dhaka are juveniles. The number of their gang members has increased to more than 20,000 compared to before. They now have modern sharp weapons including pistols.
When asked, Taifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dakshinkhan Police Station, said, "Among the accused we arrested this month, some were members of juvenile gangs. These juveniles are mainly involved in robberies and fights."
Uttara Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Md. Mohidul Islam (Additional DIG) said, "We have arrested more than a hundred juvenile gang members so far. If any crime is committed in Uttara area, we are taking action against the criminals and making arrests. Our campaign is ongoing if we receive information about gang culture. Along with this, conscious individuals of the society should also come forward."
RAB has played a significant role in controlling juvenile gangs before. Since the change of direction, these juvenile gang group cultures are trying to become active again. RAB will take a strict stance on this issue, said Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Zakiul Karim, deputy commander of RAB-1.
According to sources at the police headquarters, the number of teenage gang members has increased not only in the capital but also in every police station area of the country. The misdeeds of teenage gangs have spread to rural areas as well. They are becoming more reckless day by day due to several reasons including drugs, greed for extra money, the tendency to think of themselves as bigots without paying attention to the law, unemployment, irresponsibility of parents and many more.
Police Headquarters AIG (Media) Enamul Haque Sagar said that currently, the root of social crimes is the members of teenage gangs. The police are active in controlling this.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the Media and Public Relations Department of DMP, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, said that the police have been instructed to be vigilant in these matters due to the recent increase in juvenile crime. Along with this, the public must come forward to control it. Otherwise, it will not be possible for the police force alone to control it.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said that all police unit chiefs across the country have been instructed to conduct raids based on the list of juvenile gangs. The police have taken the strictest action in this regard.
Dr. Touhidul Haque, an associate professor at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Dhaka University and a society and crime expert, said, "We are noticing that this has increased several times since the fall of the government in July-August as law enforcement officers have not been on the ground much."
To curb juvenile crime, efforts must be made to bring them back on the right path from all levels of the family, society, and state. Those who use juveniles for their own interests must be identified and brought under the law. Those who will prevent these juvenile gang cultures also have responsibilities. The participation of all political leaders and businessmen in the area is necessary.
If everyone socially creates a guideline, it will be brought under control to a large extent. However, during this time of the new government, there is discussion and criticism in various quarters that some new political obstacles have been created to curb juvenile crime.
