At least 149 people have been cheated by investing in a land project of a former police constable. The victims have not yet seen the land or the flat despite buying 38 kathas of land in West Merul Badda, adjacent to Hatirjheel, through a developer company named ‘Amar Bari Amar Ghar Limited’.
The investors have raised serious allegations against the company’s managing director and former police constable Md. Mashiur Rahman, including land fraud, making fake documents, selling excess shares, extortion and death threats.
The victims made these allegations at a press conference organized at the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) auditorium in Segunbagicha in the capital on Saturday morning.
According to victims, on October 10, 2022, 149 people had bought shares of 38 kathas of land through four documents. Mashiur Rahman had promised to complete the construction work within 6 months getting the approval of RAJUK within 3 years and hand over the flats.
Although 20 and 30 feet wide roads were promised for entering the project, in reality no roads exist. On the contrary, 7.6 million taka has been collected in the name of road expansion and land use clearance, but there is no progress in the work, the investors have alleged.
It was reported at the press conference that Mashiur Rahman sold shares of land to 21 other people besides the real shareholders by showing fake documents. In addition, when they contacted him demanding the land, he had issued death threats to them by a hired terrorist.
When the victim’s investors pressed for the return of 7.6 million taka, the company (Mashiur) gave a bank checque, but it was dishonored.
In addition, the shareholders also alleged intimidation and threats of false cases in the name of DB police.
The victims said, “We joined this project in the hope of getting a place to settle down with our life savings. But former constable Mashiur Rahman has devastated our dreams.”
They have sought the Chie Adviser of the interim government's intervention for speedy trial and realisation of the land.
