A Dhaka court has granted bail to actress Nusraat Faria, who was sent to jail on Monday (19 May) after being arrested in an attempted murder case filed over the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday following a hearing on her bail petition, Faria’s lawyer Barrister Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain told journalists.

Earlier on Sunday (18 May), immigration police detained Nusraat Faria at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was about to board a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Thailand. She was later handed over to Bhatara police, who subsequently transferred her to the Detective Branch (DB) office.

Faria was later shown arrested in a case filed with Bhatara Police Station over the attempted murder of one Enamul Haque during the July uprising.

According to police sources, an arrest warrant was issued against Nusraat Faria in connection with the attempted murder case during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement, and she was arrested based on that warrant.

As per the case statement, a man was shot during clashes in the capital’s Bhatara area amid the movement. The case names 17 individuals, including Nusraat Faria, as accused. The complaint alleges that the accused provided financial support to suppress the movement.
