For the first time in the country, the Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) will pilot test robots, powered by artificial intelligence, for treating chronic neurological cases from Thursday.

After the existing team of physicians hone their practical skills, the treatment centre will operate at full capacity, said a post in the Chief Adviser’s facebook page on Wednesday.

Currently, a team of 27 trained physicians will provide treatment in special cases, but, after they enrich their experience, the centre will be opened to the general mass in phases.

Thanks to Chinese assistance, the centre will provide world-class neurological treatment and rehabilitation services for patients suffering from paralysis, stroke-related nervous complications, long-term pain, frozen shoulder and other types of neurological disorders.

China has donated equipment worth Tk20 crore, and a seven-member team of Chinese biomedical engineers has provided necessary trainings to the select group of Bangladeshi physicians.

The centre has 62 robots, 22 of which are powered by AI.

The centre will be a significant support for July uprising victims suffering from long-term complications.
