A court in Dhaka on Thursday framed charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and other accused in three graft cases filed over the alleged embezzlement of government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-5 passed the order and issued warrants for their arrest since the accused remained absconding.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said the court indicted the accused in the three cases and set 11 August to start recording the deposition of the witnesses.
Hasina is among 12 accused in one of the cases, the former prime minister and her son are among 17 accused in another, while Hasina and her daughter are among 18 accused in the third case, he said.
The ACC filed six separate cases in January this year, alleging abuse of power and favouritism in the allocation of government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
